....And now a guest post by Kirkus MacGowan! The Birth of a Muse!

Thanks to J. Scott Sharp for letting me borrow his blog for the day! What’s the big news? I joined KDP Select on Amazon. That’s right, I said KDP Select. What is March Musedness you ask? It’s what I’ve named this week’s KDP Select giveaway of The Fall of Billy Hitchings: A John Reeves Novel, on Amazon.

Whether you’re an author or release your artistic energy through another outlet, I’m sure you’ve heard of the so-called muse. Without delving into the obvious argument about whether they truly exist, let me tell you about mine.

The Birth of a Muse
A little over a year ago, I sat staring at my computer screen. I’d graduated with a B.S. a month before and wasn’t sure where to go next. Movement in the middle of the living room caught my eye. When I glanced over it hit me right between the eyes. My muse was already there. He’d been there for almost three years. My son.

The pictures featured in today’s post were taken by him. If you want to see a couple other pictures he’s taken, check out this post I wrote for the Pyjama Club Blog named, Future Photographer.

My son didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. He sat curled up in a ball on his beanbag with his thumb in his mouth. From that moment on, I knew I had to write. To at least try. If I was to be the father I wanted to be, I had to chase my dreams. How would I teach my son to follow his dreams if I never chased my own?

I’ve told that story a few times, but there it is again. Now back to present day.

Today is my son’s birthday. FOUR YEARS OLD!!! My stomach flips every time I think about it.

In celebration of his birthday, I thought I would throw my first KDP Select giveaway. Maybe put Billy Hitchings up toward the top so I could brag to him about how I wrote a bestseller. If I don’t make it this week, I’ll continue trying. I’m sure he’ll have a great birthday anyway, but wouldn’t it be cool! It might even make it easier on him when I explain that my hairy arms aren’t really called hairskin… Maybe that can wait.

On March 14, 2012 and March 15, 2012, The Fall of Billy Hitchings: A John Reeves Novel will be available free on Amazon exclusively!

Tell your friends, your neighbors, your neighbors’ neighbors, your chihuahua, the guy at the gas station. Remember those two days, the 14th and the 15th.

The Fall of Billy Hitchings averages 4.7 stars on Amazon.

KDP Select & March Musedness Recap
In celebration of my muse’s fourth birthday, I’m giving away The Fall of Billy Hitchings free through the Amazon KDP Select program on March 14 and 15th.
Help me brag to my son that his dad is a bestselling author!
