The Time Will Pass Anyway

As we all go through our lives, whether you're a writer like me, or a musician, or an accountant, or a high school principal, or a customer service rep, or whatever, we all seem to be oblivious to the way that time keeps on ticking away. So what does that mean to us all? In the end, it means that we all only get so much and time is an unforgiving resource in our lives. It cannot.not be saved. There is only so much for everyone.

Here is the point. The time will pass away whether you want it to or not. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, they will all pass away. So the question is: how will  you  spend that time? So for instance, if you are a writer and time is going to  pass any way, why not start earlier, work harder, and write more?

There is a momentum to success...in life, in business, in writing, in everything. We just have to choose to want more than our life is. It always takes more time to get moving than it does to keep moving, so as long as time is going to  go by anyway, keep moving. Make your dream come true. Make this life something fantastic. Never look back.

I am spurred to this post today by a life wasted. I am inspired to these words by a man that knew that his life was not as he wanted it, but felt powerless to make it better, and I want you all to know that we are not powerless. Yes, life is going to tick away and it's never going to come back, but if we can take a more focused look at how we spend that time, our lives will be better. So we can love better. We can work harder. We can dream bigger. We can hope more. We can focus on what is good. Why not? It's just a choice. The time will pass anyway.

  1. Jason that is a profound post sparked from tragic circumstance. I've just spent another day finding reasons to do anything but write, even though the writing is what I want to do. Tomorrow it is all I will do. And visit Mom. And love my kids when they get home. And wish my son a happy 18th birthday.

Thanks for the perspective in the midst of your pain. My best to you, your wife, and your family.

  2. As Julie says ... profound. Also bittersweet, compelling, and encouraging. Wishing you and your family the best in dealing with this tragedy, Jason.

  3. This is beautiful, Jason, and such a powerful message. You don't sugarcoat it...it's straight to the point. As Tom said, it's very bittersweet.

    I'm rootin' for you, buddy.

  6. Profound words. Time should be spent towards your hapiness. There will be plenty moments of pain, sorrow. There is no point in making yourself unhappy with unneeded stress. As I see it, if you are.doing something you enjoy, your time is not wasted. If writing makes you happy, then yes more time should be spent writing. No for seeing no way out of a problem I've recently heard this philosophy:
Do you have a problem? Can you fix it? Yes? Then you have no problem.
    Or:
Do you have a problem? Can you fix it? No? Then you have no problem.

  7. My heart hurts for you, Jason. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can relate. Last year my six year old nephew was struck by a car and killed. His death had a similar impact on me. It's what spurred me to finally publish my first novel. I've been trying to better use my time since then, but time has a way of dulling tragety and our lust for life.

Thanks for the reminder, and you and your family are in my prayers.

  8. Thank you everyone for your kind words. i just hope to get the word out that our lives are never as bad as we think they are. If we want it to be better, all we have to do is believe and do something...and keep moving. We always feel better when we are doing something productive, something worthwhile. So if you ever feel that your life is not worth it, go love somebody, go be someone.

    1. When we start to contemplate, it becomes confusing. Sure there's the whole family and friends thing, which is very important. I think when you start to look at life as an individual--Why am I here? What am I supposed to accomplish?--it can become very baffling.

Excellent post. Seize the day, Carpe Diem--each of us has to make the most of our life.

    2. Thanks RP. In the depths of our every day life is a life worth finding and seizing. I truly belief that if we will live our life with some intention, as we do with other things that we enjoy, we would find so much more to appreciate. some people do this...and some see life as something that must be endured.
      Thanks for your support

  9. Thank you for the inspiring words! And hopefully our words and actions inspire other people in a positive way too. Life is short and unpredictable. Every day is a gift to enjoy and share with others.

  11. We can always regain money, possessions, even love -- but time, we can never get back time.

It feels like reality jabs me in the stomach every time I think about the time I have wasted; sleeping in, watching garbage on TV, staring aimlessly at walls, surfing the Internet aimlessly.

The tyranny of "one day" consumes us all, at times. Unfortunately, there won't always be a next "one day."

    1. Exactly what happened for my bro-in-law. I wonder if he would have lived life differently if he knew it was all going to be over soon
